Frequently asked questions and answers regarding the Loma Linda Ronald
McDonald House:
| Question #1: |
|
What is a Ronald McDonald
House and how did it get started? |
| Answer: |
|
A Ronald McDonald House is a "home away
from home" for families of seriously ill children who have
had to travel to receive treatment at children's hospitals in
the United States and other countries. The first House opened
in October 1974 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Since that time,
the Ronald McDonald House program has expanded across the U.S.
and around the world. Each Ronald McDonald House offers all
the comforts of home- private guest rooms and bathrooms, communal kitchen
and dining areas, laundry facilities, play rooms, playgrounds,
TV and computer areas, and more! |

| Question #3: |
|
Are all Ronald McDonald
Houses connected? |
| Answer: |
|
Ronald McDonald Houses are owned and operated
by local chapters of Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC),
based in Oak Brook, Illinois. Each local chapter is licensed
by McDonald's Corporation and operates as an IRS-designated
501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization. While all chapters are
part of the overall RMHC system, each is overseen at the local
level by its own Board of Directors and is supported by individuals,
organizations, businesses, and foundations within the local
community. Most chapters operate a single Ronald McDonald House;
some operate more than one. |

| Question #4: |
|
Who provides the funding
to support Ronald McDonald Houses? |
| Answer: |
|
The vast majority of funding needed to operate
a Ronald McDonald House is provided by residents of the communities
served by the House - individuals, corporations, foundations,
and civic groups, to name a few. Each House raises funds in
a variety of ways, including special events, grant requests,
direct mail, planned giving, and pull-tab programs. |
